LGBT History Week

LGBT History week is to remind us that even today; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people suffer oppression and discrimination all around the world. Whilst people still seek to make LGBT people ashamed of who they are, it is imperative they are proud of it, celebrate their diversity and remember the contributions LGBT people have made to the world – this year, LGBT History week is focusing on work LGBT people have done within the fields of maths and science. Please come and have a look at our display. We also have some books on tackling homophobic bullying, and how you can support LGBT young people.

National Libraries Day

National Libraries Day is on Saturday 9th February which provides an opportunity to celebrate all things library related.

This is your opportunity to learn more about your College library, or about your local public library or even learn more about the library profession as a possible future career.  We have a display in the LRC that provides information on all these areas.

Here in the Learning Resources Centre at TRC we would like to encourage you this weekend to join your local public library, whether it is in Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley or Chesterfield.  Or if you are already a member - why not visit a different one and see what they have to offer.

There are lots of events taking place in libraries across the region with Sheffield offering tours and historical events that are free to attend.

Or if the bad weather prevents you from getting out at the weekend, why not borrow a book from your College LRC and curl up with this in the comfort of your own home - we hold a good collection of fiction titles that you can borrow for up to 3 weeks.  You can also come along and join the TRC Book Club today (6th Feb) and hear about what the current members have been reading, which may generate some ideas of what you can read next!

Safer Internet Day 2013

Today (5th Feb) is Safer Internet Day which aims to raise awareness of how to stay safe online, focussing on various issues from cyberbullying to social networking use.  This year's theme is 'online rights and responsibilities' where you are encouraged to 'connect with respect'.

Here at TRC we expect all students to be safe and responsible online and respect others and we have a number of leaflets and resources to help you with this.  If you want some tips on how to stay safe online, please see the LRC display and help yourself to a free leaflet.
