LRC October Half Term Opening Hours

Half Term Opening
As the half term holidays are fast approaching, we hope you have all had a productive and interesting term.

For those that need a quiet space to study/revise during half term please be aware that  the LRC is open during the half term holidays, every day from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

All students wanting to use the LRC must sign in at reception and ensure they bring their ID card/lanyard with them as normal.

On Thursday 20th October, the sixth annual TRC Careers Fair will take place in the Sports Hall from 10.45am to 1.30pm. This is a unique opportunity for to talk to some representatives from Apprenticeship providers, Colleges, Employers and Universities. Ensure when you see all the representatives that you meet that you ask them the right questions.
Come and take a look at the display in the LRC, to see some of the resources available in the Careers Library.  If you require further assistance in finding careers resources please see the Careers Librarian, Mandy Barker.  Further information and resources can be accessed on the Careers Moodle page.

Win £25

There's still chance to be in with a chance to win £25, all you have to do is write a 500 word short story containing all the ten words of the day from Literacy Week and e-mail it to Emma Hadfield by this Friday (14th October).  The winner will be announced before half term.

As a reminder, here are the words………..
Xenophobia:          Dislike, distrust of foreigners
Majoritarianism:    The principle that the will of the majority should always be accepted
Egalitarian:             Someone who believes in the principle that mankind is equal
Dissemble:              The act of disguising real intentions or viewpoints
Forbearance:          To abstain or refrain from, not use or mention, put up with
Deference:              Compliance with someone who is perceived as superior
Repudiate:              Disown, reject, refuse, deny
Libellously:             To publish something false in a public manner with malicious intent
Demography:         The study of population
Despot:                   Absolute ruler, tyrant, oppressor, dictator

Literacy Week - Friday's Events

It's the final day of Literacy Week and we hope you have all enjoyed the events and competitions - and hope that some of you have been lucky winners!

Welcome to Literacy Week.  An exciting week dedicated to all things literacy related.

Starting today we will be posting two words a day - you will find these on here, on MyDay and in your classrooms.
