I Pledge to Take A Stand Against Hate

Running alongside Love Colleges Week is Hate Crime Awareness Week.

There’s no place for hate in South Yorkshire and this is your chance to pledge to take a stand against hate.

Pledge signs can be found in both the Courtyard and the Upper Level of the LRC and we hope that people will be willing to pose for their photo holding the attached pledge..…..maybe pop down with your own camera at some point this week and share your picture on social media with the hashtags #NoPlaceForHate #SpreadLoveNotHate #SafePlaceForAll #WeStandTogether

Raise awareness of this important issue and show your support.

Staff and students at TRC have already been taking the pledge - including the LRC Team.

Goodbye and Good Luck!

As the academic year comes to an end we want to wish all our students happy holidays and good luck with those exam results.

For those students not returning in September we wish you all the very best with your future endeavours.

And just a final note.....we still have a number of books yet to be returned.  If you can still see copies of your textbooks somewhere at home, could we ask that you please return them to the LRC as soon as possible so we can get them ready for the new academic year.  The LRC is open as normal this week.  We will then be open at certain points over the summer holidays - but please ring the main reception first to double check the exact opening hours each day.

Help Us to Help You!

It’s that time of year when we want to find out your views about the LRC.

Each year we ask students to complete a survey about the Learning Resources Centre, which helps us to make improvements for the future.

Please spare a few minutes to complete the survey by going to the Survey area on Moodle.

Many thanks for your help.

Young Writers in the North Festival ROTHEHRAM - Saturday 14th April

“It’s an open door into anything a young writer could possibly want: how to develop work, how to move into the professional sphere, poetry, prose, performance, script, comedy – and a wonderful social event for young people who don’t necessarily see other young writers regularly.”

Young writer feedback (2014 festival)

Hive Young Writers Festival is a jam-packed day of word-based happenings for young writers (14-25) from across Yorkshire and the North taking place on Saturday 14 April.

We’re talking 150+ young writers under one roof enjoying workshops, panel discussions & advice sessions with a wide range of practicing writers and industry professionals. There’ll also be a number of free one to one advice sessions you can book with professional writers on the day.

The festival is a chance to network, hear from professional writers, meet like-minded young writers, perform & of course, write! Everyone is welcome – all writing interests and experiences. Check out our list of festival writers & who’s who.

Workshops and talks will span everything from novel and performance poetry, to advice from publishers and about writing careers. There’ll also be the chance to ask questions to a wide range of professional writers in panel Q&As.

There’ll be book stalls from Valley Press, The Poetry Business and Longbarrow Press. You might also encounter roving Hive reporters and Write Radio from Sheffield Live hoping to record some words on the fly!

You can also take to the mic with your own words – be they sung, acted or spoken and there’ll be a poetry finale slam competition with prizes (sign up details coming soon).

The last festival like this was in 2014 so we hope you’ll join us for this rare and exciting day of all things words!

The LRC Has Changed

You may have noticed, but the upper level of the LRC has recently changed.

Why is this?  I hear you ask!

We have noticed that at certain times the LRC is being used more for social purposes than study.

More than anything, here in the LRC we want to help you to succeed and achieve - so we have changed the table layout to enable you to better focus on your work.

It might take a bit of getting used too, but hopefully this new layout will cause less distractions and help motivate you with your study and revision.

We, of course, welcome any feedback you may have about this change either via the suggestion boxes in the LRC or speak to a member of the LRC team.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year and welcome back to a new term.
We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and have returned refreshed and ready to work.

As we start a new term, we want to encourage you all to set off on the right foot!  Please remember and respect that the LRC is a place to study NOT socialise.  Exams and coursework deadlines will be fast approaching now so it's important to not disturb your fellow students.

The LRC team will be speaking to any students who are disruptive or noisy this term - so please expect this, however we ask that you kindly please help us to help you succeed by keeping the noise down and working hard.
